Spring Is the Season of Renewal, and We Can Start With Your Skin

Nature breaks down the old and builds up the new. Leaves fall and regrow. Flowers fade to give way to new buds. Your skin cells constantly renew themselves, too.

As you age, however, the renewal process slows down. Old skin cells linger, dulling your complexion. New skin cells lag behind in the rebuilding process. And your skin no longer produces enough of the key structural elements — such as hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin — that promote strength, thickness, and elasticity.

Exposure to the fierce Texas sun doesn’t help your skin, either. In fact, 80% of wrinkles aren’t caused by aging, but by the damage inflicted by the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

At Enrich Family Practice in Odessa, Texas, we’re proud to help your skin recharge and renew with Icon® laser treatments by CynoSure®. Under the guidance and training of our founders — Maria Cole, APRN, FNP-C, and Kelly Wenger, APRN, FNP-C — our aestheticians renew your skin just in time for spring.

Add depth and lift with collagen

When you look at your kids, or photos of yourself when you were younger, you marvel at the thick, healthy, and uplifted facial skin. While gravity may play some part in pulling your face downward, the main problem is loss of supportive collagen.

After the age of 30, you lose about 1% of our collagen per year. Worse, your body slows its production of collagen, too, so your skin loses its depth and strength. Hence, those awful sags — especially around the lower face and neck — that are the most telltale and hard-to-hide sign of aging of all.

Icon, though, helps your skin produce more collagen and another essential protein, known as elastin. The heat from the laser penetrates deep into your dermis, where it creates micro wounds that stimulate your skin’s healing process.

Your body rushes more blood to the area, clearing away debris and old, useless strands of collagen and elastin. The extra blood nourishes the tissues, so that they can start to rebuild themselves and produce the large amounts of collagen and elastin needed to repair the wounds.

The collagen remodeling process continues long after your Icon session. Over the next six months, your skin restructures itself to be stronger, thicker, and more elastic.

Erase wrinkles and scars

Wrinkles are manifestations of collagen deficits. When your skin lacks collagen, elastin, and the natural moisturizer hyaluronic acid, it’s easily damaged. Habitual expressions break this thin, unresilient skin down so that it can’t hold its shape, and wrinkles form.

The UVA and UVB rays from the sun also deplete your skin of collagen and break down the integrity of the skin cells. The Icon laser’s heat, however, helps rebuild your skin from the inside out with fresh new collagen and elastin.

As your skin remodels itself with new collagen over the next few months, you notice that your wrinkles fill in and your skin smooths out. Icon also breaks apart and rebuilds the disordered skin that composes all types of scars, including acne scars and injury scars.

Lose the spots and visible veins

In its quest to undo all damage done by the sun, Icon eliminates unsightly age spots, brown spots, sun spots, and spider veins. Icon also features a melanin reader so our aesthetician can target individual lesions without affecting the surrounding skin.

The laser’s energy breaks apart the pigment in visible, broken veins and brown spots. The broken veins are destroyed and eventually flushed away. The brown spots may flake off over the next few weeks.

The rejuvenative effect you desire may take a series of up to three treatments, with final results visible about 6 months after your last session. You may also wish to add to your rejuvenation with our expertly applied dermal fillers
